Working your ass off does pay off

I cant describe the feeling I have today. Its pure joy, I feel like I did win the lotery. I have been working at my company since September, I was hired as a field development analyst – pretty much my job was to help our brand reps in whatever they needed. Over time I have picked up several other responsibilities and my work load has easily quadrupled – I have never been happier! The only issue is that I cant live off of what I make each week (by live I mean pay loans, medical bills, rent + live the life I want) so I still bartend at least 2x a week… Its just exhausting… I don’t think ill leave the 21a… after all its been my home for 7 years, but I needed to justify all the hard work I was putting in.

Last week I finally did just that. I asked for exactly what I wanted – and made sure to explain why I already deserve it and think I will be able to do even more in the future…. I was called into a meeting almost a week later. My CEO and President announced a new position which came with the raise I asked for AND a bonus structure. I have never felt more amazing. Not lucky, not the right place at the right time… I felt just RIGHT… like I got what I deserved… and that my friends… is something I haven’t felt in a really really long time..

Strength Finding

Last week we all had to read “Strength Finders” and take a test online where you had to pick one phrase or the other depending on what you feel more stronger about. The test determines your top 5 strengths based on the answers. The test was given company wide and the results were compared within each group to see where our strengths lie. “From cradle to cubical we spend our lives we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths.”

The idea is building a team through strengths. One of the ideas in the book is if you spend your life trying to be good at everything you will never be good at anything. Society encourages us to be well rounded but this theory breeds mediocrucy – instead we should focus on what we are good at. My top five were:

communication: people with strong communication theme generally find it easy to put thoughts into words. They are good conversationalists and presenters.

individualization: people strong in individualization theme are intrigued with the unique qualities of each person, They have the gift of figuring out how people who are different can work together productively.

input: people strong in the input theme have a craving to know more. Often they like to collect and archive all kinds of information.

learner: people strong in the learner theme have a great desire to lean and want to continuously improve. In particular, the process of learning, rather than the outcome excites them.

restorative: people strong in the restorative theme are adept at dealing with problems. They are good at figuring out what is wrong and resolving it.

Push

There has been a number of changes in the management position above me since I first took my job in September. One of which was there for a few short months but I feel as though she may have been a game changer for me. I never thought of a career in social selling but this woman has done it. She has made me think differently than any other person has.

6e6b00e0c9bf4986bf749377d94116ee_2We still stay in touch and she asked me my goals for this year. I told her – she said they aren’t good enough – come back with more specific ones

I told her personally:

I will make sure I go out at least 1 weekend evening – I will not allow myself to work all weekend.

Professionally:

I will attend Stella + Dot Hoopla this year

I will get a promotion

I am so happy to have her as someone as a mentor if this is the career path I choose.
